Two main pairs of arteries supply the brain - the two internal carotid arteries and the two vertebral arteries.
The vertebral artery changes its name.
Blockage of the circulation under the dotted line (vertebral artery distribution) affects the circulation to the visual area of the cerebrum, the brain stem, and the cerebellum and may result in visual loss, dizziness and other problems.
A catheter (injection tube) threaded retrograde up the right brachial artery to the subclavian artery at the level of the right vertebral artery can be used to release contrast material that will enter both the right vertebral and right carotid arteries, thereby demonstrating the front and back cerebral circulations (Fig. 9).
Figure 10 also explains why the vertebral artery changes its name twice.
